I have to admit I thought this story started off slow at first but as the story progressed I found myself laughing and very much intrigued that I didn't want to put it down.It was very romantic though anguish at the same time. I kinda knew what the secret was behind Adam as I did catch onto the clues the Trish did not,but I felt there was more and that a man from his background he was too much of a gentleman to admit or put blame on someone else that he would just take on the responsibility of dealing with it privately and there is where problems arouse instead of just being upfront with all of it.
In all the secondary characters are great and had me laughing Cliff is a riot.

At age 27, law firm receptionist Trish is tired of the dating scene. She'd turned down a marriage proposal from her boyfriend Kurt, but when she thinks he'll ask again, this time she plans to say yes.
When Kurt instead dumps her, Trish comes up with a new idea she'll only go on three dates with any guy. After three dates is where the heartache starts.

Cliff is a college friend who's also an attorney at her law firm. (I happen to love Cliff and can't wait for his story, coming next.) Trish mistakenly thinks Cliff is gay and tries to set him up with a guy. The gay guy is suspicious about Trish matching up with a lesbian on their double-date.
Cliff has the hots for Trish, but she's more intrigued by stylish businessman Adam, a client at the firm. Adam overhears Trish's three date max plan and their flirtation begins.
When Adam takes her on a dreamboat third date, including a surprise candlelit dinner on a yacht on the Chicago River, she's definitely impressed.
"Does this look like a good spot to drop anchor?"
"Perfect. You seriously should get a job planning dates for The Bachelor."
Trish and Adam develop feelings for each other that transcend the three-date limit. She wants to make an exception for him, but he may be unable to veer off their careful plan due to his secret past.
I definitely LOVED this contemporary romance, and can't wait for the next book in the series.
The storyline was so typical of how women seem to put their own spin on how what happens must mean to the guy, but without actually asking. So much misunderstanding could be prevented with communication. Liked the positive ending. Written with humor.
Seriously, I cannot think of anything else to say other than "awww www!!!!!!" Like, I love Adam. My heart was in pieces over another book and I didn't know what I could read after that and then I came to this. Absolutely loved it!!
This was such a cute book. The heroine and hero have no intention of falling "in love" at all. The three dates that she intends to limit them to turn into much more, after she uncovers a secret he's keeping. The story is about reconciling themselves to forever, when they only had the short term in mind.
I was hooked from the very beginning and had a hard time putting this story down. Trish and her friends are great. I love that all the characters are well developed and we get to know them too. Trish and Adam are fantastic and have really good chemistry.

This felt like justified adultery...Adam was a jerk, Trish lied to herself, an Clif, oh wow Cliff....he deserved someone real, someone honest anď truthful...Cliff was my hero.
Adam and Trish...not a fan
When it Hooks You is the second book in The It series and can be read as a stand-alone. Nicki is a new author to me. I enjoyed reading When It Hooks You. It had a slow pace but held my attention. There was a mystery to Adam's character. I liked Trish's character and her insight on things. Even rules are meant to be broken. Looking forward to more of The It series. I plan on going back to read When It Hits You book one in the series.
